about

Director & Scenic Designer

Liv King is a Texan-born and NYC-based director and scenic designer. She is a recent graduate of the Boston University School of Theatre, earning her BFA in Theatre Arts in May of 2026. At Boston University, Liv was able to hone her craft in many disciplines, finding a love of theatre that resonates from the rehearsal room to the prop shop to the performance hall.

As a director and scenic designer, Liv enjoys answering a logistic question with a creative answer. She believes that through collaboration and textual analysis, a unique solution can be discovered.

True to form, her favorite projects are always leading her to take on multiple roles and explore new creative paths. As a multi-disciplinary theatre artist, Liv is accustomed to doing what she can to make a play work, even if it means leaving her comfort zone behind.

Liv is a firm believer that anyone and everyone’s input on a process is valuable and necessary. And, she just loves a good play.

Liv was a 2026 Recipient of the Boston University School of Theatre’s Douglas W. Schmidt Award for Excellence in Scenic Design. Read what her nominator, Associate Professor James Noone, had to say below:

“It’s been astounding to watch Liv grow over the past 4 years. Although she is in the Scenic Design Program, Liv has found that her passion truly comes alive when she is directing. She loves plays, she knows all about the work of countless playwrights and she loves to tell stories that are compelling and living in the moment we are in. She has proven to be a voice to be listened to with her work on Fefu and Her Friends, The Crucible, American Buffalo, and countless other projects in the School of Theatre. Rarely have I encountered a young person with her knowledge, skill and ability. Doug Schmidt is a great storyteller and so is Liv. I believe Liv will achieve whatever she wants to do. Committed, courageous, full of wit humor, humanity and generosity are some of the qualities Liv possesses that I believe will take her far in the world of Theatre.”
